Biography

Dr. Dermody (she/her) is the Director of the Clinical Addictions Research and Equity (CARE) Lab at TMU. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Biological & Health Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and completed an accredited residency at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Following graduation, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the CAMH and then was an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Oregon State University. She currently supervises MA and PhD students in the Clinical Psychology program at TMU, and teaches courses related to addiction, clinical psychology, and research methods and statistics.

Dr. Dermody鈥檚 research investigates the risk factors and treatments for substance use and addiction in youth and adults. More specifically, her research aims to (1) characterize risk of substance use and dependence across the lifespan; (2) optimize addiction interventions to address co-occurring substance use; and (3) identify and address differences in substance use patterns and harms based on one鈥檚 gender and sexual identities. To accomplish this, her research uses several methodologies, such as laboratory-based experiments (including substance self-administration), ecological momentary assessment, and the application of advanced quantitative methods to analyze longitudinal and epidemiological data.
