Student installations light up the city at the Media Architecture Biennale 2023, led by Professor Dave Colangelo

The week-long event, hosted by The Creative School, showcases innovation in architecture, design, urban planning, media, communication, and public policy.

(MAB23),a week-long event featuring keynotes, workshops, symposia, panels, awards, and an exhibition, is coming to 勛圖眻畦. The event aims to offer a platform for communities of research and practice concerned with media and the built environment. Led by Professional Communication Professor Dave Colangeglo, MAB23 will bring together students, academics, and professionals from architecture, art, design, urban planning, media and communication, urban informatics, and public policy to share new ideas and shape this evolving field.

Imagining innovation in the city

This years exhibition is hosted by The Creative School, with leadership from Colangelo and his team. Located in the heart of Toronto, The Creative School provides a unique landscape for the event to transpire. 

The Creative School is right next to the densest concentration of Media Architecture in Canada: Yonge Dundas Square, Colangelo remarked.

Throughout the month of June, Yonge-Dundas Square will act as a gallery for and photography works by Image Arts students. Every night from 11 p.m. to midnight, several screens in the square including Cadillac Fairviews will display visuals created by students from The Creative Schools Film and Photography programs. 

Assembly Gallery

The Assembly Gallery at The Creative School located on the main floor of the Image Arts building at 122 Bond Street will host the MAB23 Exhibition, featuring a prototype of the LED sculpture on display in College Park, a project that was commissioned by MAB23 sponsor  and built by students in TMUs Architectural Science department. 

All are welcome to attend the Assembly Gallery on Thursday, June 22 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the exhibition and book launch party. The exhibition and launch party is free and open to all TMU community members.

The book launch will celebrate two new publications produced specifically for the Biennale. features responses to a series of prompts about Media Architecture by artists, designers, and thinkers such as , Eliza Chandler and Lisa East, , , , , and . The draws on cutting-edge research and global studies. This transdisciplinary collaboration offers an in-depth account of Media Architectures evolution and its real-world applications.
