Program Options and Delivery
The MSc program in Data Science and Analytics Program may be completed as a full-time study (MRP or Thesis option) or part-time study (MRP option).
You can opt to take the program fully virtually or as a combination of virtual and in-person courses. For an example of course schedule and delivery, please visit the current Course Schedule.
From the student's initial registration in graduate studies, there is both a minimum and maximum time to degree completion.
Students begin their studies in September or the fall term. Students are mentored by a faculty advisor or supervisor and advised on a program of study towards completion of the degree requirements.
Below are recommended time paths for the completion of the degree requirements for all three options given the minimum time-to-completion.
| Term 1 Fall |
Term 2 Winter |
Term 3 Spring/Summer |
| DS8001 | DS8004 | Seminar DS8005 |
| DS8002 | elective 1 | Major Research Project* |
| DS8003 | elective 2 | |
| Seminar DS8012 |
*The major research project (MRP) is considered to be a Milestone. A Milestone is a component of a program which is required for graduation, but is not offered in a traditional in-class course framework. Data Science students are enrolled in the Milestone when they are ready to commence work on their MRP. The final assessment will normally be Pass/Fail.
In addition to the two seminar courses and major research paper:
Full-time students may choose three (3) required and/or elective courses per term.
Part-time students may take no more than two (2) required and/or elective courses per term.
Not all elective courses are offered in a given year.
For a description of the Data Science and Analytcis graduate curriculum and courses consult the Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Calendar.
Continuous enrolment is a requirement of all ³Ô¹ÏÖ±²¥ graduate students. Graduate students must be enrolled in every term of their program until all requirements of their program have been met, unless they have been granted a Leave of Absence or have withdrawn from the program.
